June Jenson is back, and she’s in more trouble than ever. Still adjusting to her family’s recent exoneration from the Archeological world (they stole an artifact, caused a ruckus… it’s a long story), June decides to embark on a press tour to repair the image of her employer (Oxford University) and her (somewhat crazy, but altogether loveable) Grandfather. When the opportunity arises to go to America to find a lost treasure belonging to the notorious outlaw Butch Cassidy, June know’s it isn’t something she can shy away from – even if she wasn’t exactly the one who was assigned by Oxford to the task.
Along with the Professor, Dr. Cooke, and her emotionally-stilted boyfriend Griffin, June embarks on a treasure hunt in the wild mountains of Colorado. June hopes to make the discovery of a lifetime… that is, before anyone at Oxford realizes she’s left the country.
Oh, June! How I missed you! I’m calling it right now, fellow bookworms, I have a massive girl crush on June Jenson. I mentioned before that I thought that she and I would get along famously, and I’m happy to report that is still the case after finishing this book! In fact, the June that appears in June Jenson and the Coins of Cassidy is, if I do say so myself, even more impressive than she was in the first book! There’s so much growth that happens here, and I couldn’t stop myself from smiling along as I read.
In case you were worried that the Professor, Dr. Cooke and the amazing Griffin wouldn’t get as much page time this go-around, let me reassure you. They’re all here, and just as madcap as they were before! In fact, I think that’s one of the things I love most about this book. These four are inseparable. They play off of one another, drive one another slightly mad, and yet always are there to help one another pick up and keep moving on. The relationships in this book are so strong, that I found myself getting a little teary eyed at times. The Professor’s love for June is so obvious, and the fact that she now had Griffin in her life too just made me so happy. June is the type of character who has a hard time believing in herself, and I loved that she had others around to remind her of how amazing she was.
Oh, and the mystery this time! Spot on, my friends. Spot on. There’s the perfect amount of history tied into this whole epic adventure. Butch Cassidy’s missing gold is so close that June and her ragtag group can taste it, if only someone will let her investigate. I couldn’t keep myself from laughing as June set her mind to going on this excavation, and made it happen. With a few snags perhaps (or a few LARGE snags), but she made it happen just the same! Harper has an excellent ability to mix humor in with moments of honest emotion, and this whole book just flew by.
Have I mentioned that you really need to start this series? I’m serious. These are well worth your time! If you’re looking for something to read that’s a quick romp, with a well-written plot and amazing characters, look no further. Emily Harper is ready to introduce you to June Jenson, and I honestly can’t wait for you to meet her.
