Can’t Wait Wednesday (7/22/20)
It has been quite a while since I’ve done one of these posts! I’ve been slowly going back to reading more regularly, but the weather (and honestly my exhaustion of being inside) has been calling me outdoors more and more often. This is why I end up forgetting to post in here, or write reviews. I’ve decided the best thing to do is just set a few hours aside each week to poke around in here and draft some posts for future use. This is the first of those!
Anyway the point of this meme is to share books that I’m excited for! Per Tressa, Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. If you’re continuing with WOW, feel free to link those up as well! Find out more here.
This week’s chosen book is Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas!
When his traditional Latinx family has problems accepting his gender, Yadriel becomes determined to prove himself a real brujo. With the help of his cousin and best friend Maritza, he performs the ritual himself, and then sets out to find the ghost of his murdered cousin and set it free.
However, the ghost he summons is actually Julian Diaz, the school’s resident bad boy, and Julian is not about to go quietly into death. He’s determined to find out what happened and tie up some loose ends before he leaves. Left with no choice, Yadriel agrees to help Julian, so that they can both get what they want. But the longer Yadriel spends with Julian, the less he wants to let him leave.
I am genuinely excited this LGBTQ Latinx book, because it looks like equal parts family story and ghost story. What more could a reader ask for? I recently cleaned out my entire Goodreads to-read list (terrifying, I know) and started over with only books I am honestly excited for. This is one of the 15 on there, so I am hoping that it lives up to my expectations.
What are you excited for?
