Bookish (And Not So Bookish) Thoughts #3
“I had always had mixed feelings about Narnia, mostly because of the heavy-handed lion-Jesus allegory. I suddenly had very strong feelings that C. S. Lewis had not spent nearly enough time on the sudden realization, when moving between worlds, that nothing could be taken for granted. Maybe fog hung around all day here, even when the sky was bright. Maybe there was no night, or maybe this was what night looked like. Maybe gravity stopped working here on Tuesdays.”
The Hollow Ones – T. Kingfisher
Starting off the year right, with a quote from my current read! If you haven’t yet read The Hollow Ones by T. Kingfisher, you might want to give it a glance! I’m currently reading it with a Goodreads Horror group, and loving it. It always bothers me when characters put in impossible situations just shrug and move on with life. Like, somehow, the new rules make perfect sense and there is no need to dwell on it. I can tell you that the two main characters in this book simply don’t do that. There is a lot of cussing, some screaming, and much internal dialogue that had me giggling. I mean, I agree. Why didn’t the kids question Narnia more? It makes you think.
Anyway, we’re only a few days into the new year and I already feel like I have a better handle on things this year. After 2020 teaching me that I very much require structure, I’ve been doing mini schedules for every day. Nothing too serious, and nothing too strict, but something to keep me moving forward. Reminders to do dishes, laundry, get some reading in before bed, and post in here! Now the goal is just to keep this going as far into the new year as I can. I feel pretty motivated right now, so here’s hoping!
In other news, I’m back on a good reading vibe too! I started my new book yesterday and am already 35% through. It feels so good to have that part of myself back. I missed it immensely. I still only set my Goodreads reading challenge to 36 books this year. I’m not going to push things at all. But it feels nice to enjoy reading again.
How has your new year been thus far?
