What’s a girl to do when she’s pulled from her bed in the middle of the night and put in a magical coma?

My life is boring. Just the way I like it. I happily run my flower shop and keep to myself when I’m not hanging out with my closest friends. Until I’m ripped from my bed and held against my will.

Desperate to find a way home, I tap into powers I’ve never used before and lucky for me my good friend, Sierra Cruz, comes to my rescue.

All I want is to go back to my life.

Too bad that doesn’t seem possible. Because I’m the last remaining Warren witch, and I have an entire ancestral line of power stored inside me. Magic that someone wants to steal. Magic I can’t even use myself.

Even better, my powers have been going crazy since I met Owen Whitford. That can only mean one thing. Something I refuse to acknowledge. I need his help, even if I won’t admit it, to stop what’s coming.

As soon as we figure out what that is.

The Review

If you’ve been with us for very long, you’ll know that I am a big fan of Britni Hill and basically instabuy every thing she publishes so there was no doubt that I would be jumping on this one. I was lucky enough to snag an ARC and devoured it over two days. Fair warning on this one though, it ends on a cliffhanger. I may have immediately messaged the author upon completion asking when book three will be ready. So there’s that.

I love the atmosphere in this series, a small unassuming town with a deep history of magic and mystery. Despite a family history of magic Lucy prefers to live under the radar. After all, being the last of a long line of powerful witches can be a daunting endeavor especially when you realize someone is after your magic. Luckily for Lucy she has some devoted friends and a few new gentlemen that might be able to help her.

The timeline of this book overlaps a bit with the first one. We’re seeing the kidnapping and subsequent coma from Lucy’s perspective instead of Sierra’s. The danger and fear jumped off the page and my heart was racing as Lucy’s world is turned upside down. Not only does she have to face her grief that she’s been avoiding for months, but she also is beginning to understand just how powerful her family magic can be. There’s only one hiccup, Owen.

There’s many things that Owen brings to this interesting story, rudeness is just the first. If first impressions were the only ones to count, Lucy would have gladly written him off. Fortunately, or unfortunately, fate had other ideas. As the new owner of Lucy’s family cottage Owen has become a frequent face in Lucy’s life. When magic, friendships, and a spark collide you know that fate is playing her game well.

I really enjoyed the world building and magical background we learn about in this book. It sets the stage nicely for more twists and turns in book three. I do wish there was a little more character building but with all of the new story line and characters I was still fully immersed in the story. I can’t wait till book three arrives so I can find out what happens to Lucy, Owen, Sierra, Aurora, and Simon. I hope you love these characters as much as I do.

Britni Hill is a contemporary and paranormal romance author. She spends her days as a hair stylist, and her nights with the characters in her head.

Britni lives in Indiana where she was born and raised. She has a rescue pup she adores and an unhealthy love of binging on cheesy, teenage dramas. If she isn’t writing, she’s reading or binging horror movies or serial killer docs.
