Following Rita’s Instagram page was one of the best decisions I ever made, let me tell you what! She is so funny, genuine, and has the kind of Instagram stories that just make you want to keep checking in. Not only that but, in this bookworm’s opinion, she has excellent choice in books! I’ll let you go see for yourself, that I’m telling the truth. 😉

One book I would always recommend is Starfish by Lisa Fipps, so underrated since it’s middle grade
If I had to pick a favorite genre it would be romance because reading is my escape and provides light I need, when the world doesn’t.
I would describe myself as sarcastic, funny, anxious, and brutally honest about my own faults.
Can you share why you decided to start a bookstagram/blog?
I was friends in college with Kait (@scanfamilyreads) and she started hers. After blowing up her DMs with book talks, she made me start my own, and chose my handle for me after I said no one wants to read my opinion on trashy books.
What is your favorite part about the bookish community?
Everyone is so nice!! We’re talking Disney princess nice. You can literally drop into anyone’s DMs, start chatting like you’re old friends and they’re super receptive. Booksta came into my life as I was really struggling with the isolation of shutdowns and social media, and truly bookstagram specifically, really helped me connect when I couldn’t.
If we were to peek into your space right now, what collections (other than books of course) would we find?
I collect keychains from different states and countries. It started when my mom’s friend traveled a ton for work, and wanted to bring me back a small gift from her trips. it continued, and now all my friends and family do it. I often get frantic texts asking if I have a specific location. It’s so interesting to see what people choose. My hope is to eventually has a massive map to pin and display them all.
Where is your favorite place to read, and what absolutely needs to be there to make it feel perfect?
We have a red, overstuffed, loveseat I love to read on lately. I usually require a cuddly blanket near by. My husband refers to it as “making a nest.”
Lastly, what is one page (bookstagram or blog) that inspires you and you would LOVE to share with others?
@thefoxyreader was the first person I stumbled across on booksta who wrote SUPER honest reviews. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the ARCs, followers, book tours, etc., that I found myself feeling bad not loving the same books as everyone. Or I would hate a book everyone else raves and gushes about. Julie has a way of coyly “blessing your heart” while making you laugh, all while she’s decimating a book. Besides being wonderfully written, her reviews are a great reminder that books are art, and are completely subjective.
