Year-End Reading Check In
Hi friends! Happy Thursday, aka the day we all wish would hurry by so that we can get straight to Friday. I hope that this week has treated you well. There are so few sleeps until Christmas, and I know that a lot of you out there are just excited to get to the celebrating as I am! While I wait though, I’ve been revisiting this last year. Combing through the blog, to get an idea of what I want to tackle in 2022. Setting up a reading list of possibilities for some reading challenges that I’m eyeing. It’s been a nice way to kind of refocus and just settle down.
Last year I set my sights low, in terms of reading. 2020 was a complete mess, for many reasons obviously, and I only made it through 32 books in the whole year. Truthfully, even that felt like a win! My poor brain just didn’t want to focus on books, when the world felt like it was falling apart. So in 2021, I only decided to set my goal at 36 books for the year. I mean, three books a month felt extremely attainable. It felt like I could take my time, slowly amble through them, and just do a bit of recuperating. I’m so glad I chose to go that route!
As of now, I’ve actually made it through 52 books for the year! I think that’s because I let myself relax, and didn’t put any pressure on trying to enjoy anything. I’ve gotten really good at just immediately dropping books if I’m not feeling them, and the shame I used to feel at DNFing stories is all but gone. My friends, there are so many books to appreciate in the world. Don’t ever feel bad for quitting a book that just isn’t vibing with you. You might even be able to pick it up again later, in a different mindset! But reading is all about enjoying the journey, right?
I think I’ll keep next year’s goal right at that 52 book mark. A book a week. Nice and slow, lots of time to savor my chosen tomes.
What about you?
