It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? (12/9/24)

Happy Monday my reader friends! I’d love to have a happy, upbeat update for you but man I am exhausted. This part of the year has gotten harder over the last couple of years and I’m just trying to give myself as much grace as possible. I suggest that you do the same! I saw a post that said that we should end the year soft, instead of strong. Rest, recharge and get ready to tackle a new year. Sounds like more reading needs to happen in my future. Let’s take a look at where things are this week, shall…

Book Review: The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why -- or even who Tobias Hawthorne is. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man's touch -- and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes. Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the…

I blinked and it was Friday

Oh man, seriously. We had two days off last week for the holiday and I was so excited about the long weekend. Then Monday came, and reality set in. This week was absolute madness. We were busy non-stop and at the end of the day the last thing I wanted to do was look a computer. So, yeah. Past Jessica definitely should have scheduled some posts instead of eating more King’s Hawaiian rolls haha. I blinked, and suddenly it was Friday. On a bright note, I actually managed to finish two audio books this week while I was attacking spreadsheets…

    The Final Push to 2025!

It has been an absolutely lovely long weekend so far. Full of friends, family and of course entirely too much food. We zipped around to different the homes of different people, and now we’re finally cozy and warm back at home. I’m looking forward to tomorrow! Our only plans are to decorate our house for Christmas, watch movies, and drink hot cocoa. A perfectly wonderful end to a weekend, before it’s back to the grind. On the reading front, I took The Book That Wouldn’t Burn by Mark Lawrence with me on our vacation. I actually managed to read roughly…

Book Review: The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore

If there's one thing that this festive season brings out in me, it's the need to read cozy books. Whether they are Romance, Mystery or Fantasy, I want something that's going to make me want to settle in with a warm cup of tea and just relax. Friends, I can confidently say that The Pumpkin Spice Café is that kind of story. If you're a fan of Hallmark movies, welcome to your new favorite book. Jeanie has arrived in Dream Harbor (adorable, I KNOW) determined to turn her life around. After realizing that her life in the city was not…

Happy Wednesday friends! Is it just me, or has this week felt like it’s a million years long already. I think I’m anticipating next week and the holiday! So all I want to do is get to the pie eating and the cozy long weekend. It’ll be a great time to get some reading done! My book choice this week has an absolutely stellar cover, and sounds like something that I will enjoy immensely! In fact there’s an entire article with about this upcoming queer novel here and an interview with the lovely Gabriella Gamez. Check it out, and join…

Book Review: The Bodyguard by Katherine Center

Okay so once again it has been entirely too long since I've written a real review, and so we're going to our best with this one. I picked up The Bodyguard on a whim, since it was featured on the library's first page and oh man am I glad that I did. What caught my eye was the fact that Hannah, our MC was a female bodyguard. That had me right away. Then you add in a potential romance with a Hollywood heartthrob? Well, there was no way that I wasn't going to read this book.

Reading Goal Updates and Cozy Vibes

Ah, November. I’m not going to lie to you, my favorite holiday is (and will forever be) Christmas. So all November is to me is the month that I must endure in order to get to the part of the year where my neighborhood deems it socially acceptable for me to put up my Christmas decorations. I can already feel the vibes though! Cozy season is in full swing, and my reading bug is back in a huge way honestly. Since last I posted I managed to read a whopping 4 books in a row. Now I know that to…

Time Flies and Tea Saves Lives

I swear I blinked and it’s already the holiday season. It didn’t really click for me until it started getting darker earlier, and the morning temps are finally down into the 50’s. October in California is a weird beast. It’ll be 53 degrees overnight and then 87 degrees in the middle of the day. Oof. You have to figure out what outfit to wear that will allow you to be comfortable in both those temps and not have to carry around a sweater or a jacket haha. It drives me a bit nuts if I’m being honest. But this is…

Happy Tuesday my dear friends and welcome to the best month of the year!
