A Rainy Wednesday in March
It’s a cold, drizzly day here in So Cal and all I really want to be doing is reading. Alas, I have to work that 9 to 5 to support my reading habit in the first place, and so I’m instead content with listening to an audiobook in the background of my spreadsheet work. Do you all out there do the same? I used to listen to music too, but I find having a narrator read me a book kind of hits the spot. Especially on a day like today. As you can see, this little blog is slowly coming…

It’s time for another cover reveal, and this one I’m so very excited about! Fantasy books are my favorite, and this cover is just absolutely lovely. I always say we pick books with our eyes first. This one is calling my name in a giant way. It’s 1689. Sixteen-year-old Julie de Maupin is on the run with her boyfriend, a young swordmaster named Sérannes. They perform sword fights and songs in taverns to survive. But when a diabolical creature kills Sérannes, it also injures Julie in the attack. In the cozy town of Redwood Grove, Annie Murray’s Valentine’s Day plans take a sinister turn when a beloved pillar of the local community is found dead at her Agatha Christie-inspired bookshop. I’m back from hiatus
Hi friends, I know I disappeared for a bit. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, these last few weeks have been a lot. I’m been using all my coping mechanisms, but it just ended up that I needed to take a break. When reading no longer becomes fun, that’s when I know that it’s time to take a step back and relax for a bit. Set my expectations of myself as low as possible, and go into battery saving mode. So what have I been up to? Playing a LOT of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Sometimes it’s…

Book Review: The Resurrectionist by A. Rae Dunlap
Historical fiction, true crime, and dark academia intertwine in a harrowing tale of murder, greed, and the grisly origins of modern medicine. Edinburgh, Scotland, 1828. A shining beacon of medical discovery in the age of New Enlightenment, the city’s university offers everything James desires—except the chance to work on a human cadaver. For that he needs to join one of the private schools in Surgeon’s Square, at a cost he cannot afford. In desperation he strikes a…

That Thin Line Between Balance and Burnout
How are we holding up my friends? Okay, I hope! I started working on a review for The Resurrectionist by A. Rae Dunlap, but my brain has decided to strike. It’s been a long week already and so I’m focusing the rest of my energy on walking that thin line between balance and burnout. Last year I took a step back and learned a lot about myself. I learned good coping mechanisms and how to spot when I’m about to descend into a burnout period so that I can reverse it before it starts. Little did I know that I’d…

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? (2/3/25)
Happy Monday my reader friends! I hope that you’re all doing okay. I know the last two weeks have been…. rough. I’ve been reading as much as I can, when I feel like it, but it has slowed down. On a happy note though, I’ve still yet to read a book that I didn’t enjoy. So that’s always a good thing! I’m going to keep DNFing as much it takes to avoid reading a book that doesn’t make me happy. Let’s take a look at where things are this week, shall we? Read Last Week: Last week I finished All…
