Interviewing Eileen Cook! (SQUEE!)
OH MY GOSH guys! Guess who is here? The amazing, fantastic, fantabulous….EILEEN COOK! *flails* She’s here to answer some of my crazy questions, and I adore her for it. I can ask some odd ones, but she rolled with the punches. Without further ado, I give her the floor!
1) Hi Eileen and welcome! I am SO excited to have you on my blog! *flails* Ahem, now then. A challenge. If you could only eat one color food for the rest of your life, what color would you choose?
*flails back* So excited to be here! Although it isn’t very pretty I am going to go with brown, because chocolate is brown. I could give up many foods, but I’m pretty sure chocolate would have to stick with me. Blue and green are my favorite colors, but blueberries and broccoli look great together, but not so tasty as a combination.
The truth is – I love writing. Adult, middle grade, YA, you name it and I can think of some fun story I would like to tell. I’m that person who is always jumping up to write down something because “I just had the best idea!” (Warning: many of these ideas are not actually all that great. They sound great- especially in the middle of the night, but that they are bad ideas masquerading as good ideas.) If I had to pick a favorite I would go with YA, there is an intensity that happens at that age. Your life can go in any direction, but at the same time you still aren’t able to have full control. It’s hard to live through, but very fun to write.
Actually, this is easy- my favorite book/character is always the book I’m currently writing. When I’m still in the writing stage I’m not always sure where the story is going, and I find the characters surprise me and lead me on all sorts of interesting adventures. Once the book is done I always start to second guess myself and wonder if I could write it better.
This is why I would likely either burn alive in the fire, or drown in the flood. I would be stuck standing in front of my bookshelf dithering over which book I should take with me. I have an old 1940’s version of Gone with the Wind. I would most likely take that one and convince myself I could buy all the others all over again.
I have no idea. I tend to collect all these odd bits- part of a conversation, a description, a news story, a person I’ve seen etc, and then my brain tosses them all around until a new idea starts to form. It would be much easier if you could get inspiration at Target. If you are going to spend all the time that is needed to write a whole book you have to really love the story, so what inspires me wouldn’t inspire someone else.
(blushes) I think you’re awesome too. I am VERY excited about my new book coming up called Unraveling Isobel. It has a dreamy boy, a creepy house, a deep dark secret and a possible ghost. What’s not to love? It will be out in January. Here is the description:
Thrilling and creepy, super sexy, and so very hilarious.” –Lisa McMann, bestselling author of the Wake trilogy
Isobel’s life is falling apart. Her mom just married some guy she met on the internet only three months before, and is moving them to his sprawling, gothic mansion off the coast of nowhere. Goodbye, best friend. Goodbye, social life. Hello, icky new stepfather, crunchy granola town, and unbelievably good-looking, officially off-limits stepbrother.
But on her first night in her new home, Isobel starts to fear that it isn’t only her life that’s unraveling—her sanity might be giving way too. Because either Isobel is losing her mind, just like her artist father did before her, or she’s seeing ghosts. Either way, Isobel’s fast on her way to being the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons.
Thank you Eileen!!!
Thank you for having me!
