A Bit of a Down Post

Well my loves, I know I vanished and this time I’m not sure how long it’s going to take me to come back. I know I don’t owe the internet world anything. I know that it’s easy to just walk away and not come back, but I feel like I’ve been keeping this blog alive for so long (sometimes really well, sometimes not so much) that I at least owe you a quick explanation. The end of October brought a loss into my world that completely rocked it to the core. It shattered all of the motivation that I had…

Book Review: Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

"Anyone will tell you the born of this world are marked from the get-out, win or lose." Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, this is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father's good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. In a plot that never pauses for breath, relayed in his own unsparing voice, he braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses. Through all of it,…

    Those Cozy Reading Vibes

Well, the weather has not been kind enough to make up its mind. We’re still alternating between wild 90 degree days, and beautiful 75 degree days. Some days I can pop all the windows open and enjoy the gorgeous bird sounds. Some days I have all of our blackout curtains closed and the A/C on full blast. Hahahaha. *sobs* But this is normal. I’m actually really anticipating Halloween because that’s when the temperatures finally start to plummet for real. Let’s GO. I haven’t let that mess up my cozy reading vibes though. I’ve been having a great time picking up…

    Fall Feelings Forever

Am I the only one who is desperately wishing for cooler weather? We had a beautiful cooldown because of hurricane weather and I absolutely adored it. Then this weekend shot right back up into the high 90’s and I am just slowly wilting. I need Fall. I need warm sweaters, hot drinks and fuzzy blankets. Bring on the drizzle and the clouds! Soup season? Yes, please. My fall feelings are in full swing. On a happy note, I’ve been picking up on the reading train. I’m up to 27 books from the last time that I checked in. I’ve found…

    Summer Vibes

Hello again lovelies! Yes, yes I know. I’ve been gone for ages. Despite my best efforts the burnout was real. To prove this point, I quite literally have only finished 21 books so far this year. To some people that may be a lot. Keep in mind though that I used to read 200+ a year. So… yeah. I’ve been slowly trimming off things that no longer suit me in an effort to get my motivation back. As you might have noticed, I cut my bookstagram loose. I also haven’t been on Twitter as much. (Especially with all the website…

Book Review: Fairy Tale by Stephen King

Legendary storyteller Stephen King goes deep into the well of his imagination in this spellbinding novel about a seventeen-year-old boy who inherits the keys to a parallel world where good and evil are at war, and the stakes could not be higher—for their world or ours. Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was ten, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. Then, when…

    Book Blogger Hop (4/5/23)

Oh MAN, it’s been so long since I’ve participated in one of these! Back in the day (this blog is now… 13 years old?) I used to participate in the weekly hop all the time! It’s a great way to meet new friends, and a lot of fun to read other people’s answers to the question. I can’t wait to join in again! So let’s go! This week’s question is:Do you spend your lunchtime reading? Ah, for the first time in my life I’m actually going to have to answer no to this question. Now, let me elaborate. Once upon…
