    Where we’ve been.

*pads into blog and brushes away the cobwebs* Yeah, it’s been pretty quiet around here lately. I’m sure you’ve all noticed. In case you wanted to keep up with all things Jessica and Tina, here’s a little bit about where we’ve been. Jessica is proud to announce that, after working her booty off for an entire month, and neglecting pretty much everything for the sake of work, she was hired full time at her job! Now things have calmed down, and she’s trying her best to figure out how to deal with having free time again. Oh, and playing catch-up…

On the power of the dreaded “DNF”.

I’ve posted about this before, that dreaded DNF, but it’s been a while and my opinion on this has actually changed! Let me say that once, when I was fresh and new, I never left a book in DNF status. I always finished everything that I started. I’d wade through books that drove me crazy from beginning to end. Those were simpler times. Then, I wised up. Now I understand the power of that dreaded DNF status. It’s the power to say “Hey, you know what? This book isn’t working for me. There are lots of other things I want…

On reading books at the “right time”.

As I sit here with a mild sinus headache, my mind keeps flitting back to the book I just finished. We’ve all been there. You pick up a book, and it just hits home so hard that it won’t leave you alone. You think about it even when you aren’t reading it and then, when it’s over, it keeps replaying in your mind. Those kinds of stories are the ones I live for. Last night I finished Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. It absolutely blew me away. All I could think about was how expertly this book pried into…

On my new comic addiction, and why it’s important.

Comics, and graphic novels. Oh my! I’m sure that anyone else out there that reviews books as a hobby, or as a living, can attest to the fact that we go through reading slumps. Those sad, desperate times where no matter how many times you try to pick up a book you just can’t get into it. Oh sure, you’ll try over and over to pick something new. Maybe a Fantasy will help! A re-read? Alas, your motivation to read has come and gone. I used to think it was hopeless. Then, I fell headfirst into the world of comics…

    Feel Good Friday!

Happy Friday friends! Even though the work week has been short due to the holiday, I’m still very happy it’s the end of the week. Weekends are for sleeping in, am I right? I find myself getting jealous of my cat because he can sleep anywhere for any amount of time.  As an *almost* 7 month pregnant person now, sleeping comfortably is bit of a joke. Just once I’d like to be as comfortable as my 16lb ball of fur. Doesn’t he look so peaceful? Anyway, enough of my ramblings. I hope you are all having a fabulous week and…

It must be a May thing.

So as I was doing my usual evening run-through of internet happenings, I realized that this poor blog hasn’t been touched since last Thursday. Our apologies, dear readers. It must be a May thing. See, last May I had to give up blogging for the entire month. Things were too hectic, life was too scattered, and adding one more thing to my plate felt like a chore. While things definitely aren’t that bad this year, I will say that for some reason this seems to be a pretty crazy month! My lovely co-blogger is currently quite pregnant, and very busy…

    A Quarterly Goals Update

Hello lovely bookish people! I’ll bet you thought that I had vanished, hm? I know I haven’t had time to sit down and actually write a post in here that wasn’t a review or a spotlight. Once upon a time I wrote random posts constantly. Lately though, blogging has had to take a back seat. I still read like mad, and review whenever possible, but the days of extra time to ramble on have passed. Still, I’ll pop in here when I can! I thought I’d do a post about some updates to my reading goals this year. Since, you…

    Sunday Funday!

Happy Sunday to all of you lovely bookworms out there! I hope your weekend has been full of fun and excitement or at least some relaxation and a good book. The problem with weekends is that there are finite. By the time Sunday afternoon rolls around you’ve already started thinking about your to-do list at work on Monday and it ruins the fun.  So today, dear readers, I give you permission to pretend it’s still Saturday. Forget that you have to set an alarm tomorrow and be a functioning adult. Stay up late, go out with friends/family or simply enjoy…
