    Moved in!

Hey there blog lovelies! This is me letting you know that HDB is back up and running! If you were wondering where I’ve been the last few days, we moved. It was a little unexpected, but we found a great place and now things are pretty much set. I have internet again, so I promise to bombard you with awesome posts the remainder of the week :). Thanks for sticking around.

    Spreading some bookish love!

It’s Valentine’s Day! That time to spread the love, good vibes, and all around squishy feelings.  Now, since I’m a bibliophile, I can’t think of a better way to spread love than in bookish form.  Below are four very different books, each one dealing with that age old quest for love.  All were read in 2011, and still are my favorites.  These missed a lot of the limelight, so consider this your notice! These are FABULOUS. Practice Cake by Dalya Moon is one of my all time favorite hidden gems! Maddie is so sure she’s ready for love, and her smoldering…

    Beat those reading slumps!

Let’s face it, we bibliophiles, we readers of mountainous piles of books, all of us at some point have hit a reading slump. You stare at your shelves upon shelves up books with love and adoration. You carefully skim over each one to see what you’ll read. (Although not necessarily with an umbrella…) Image credit to We Heart It! You pick that faithful next book, you read it ravenously, you finish it with a huge smile, and then…a reading slump occurs. NOTHING seems to take the place of that last book. You pick up and throw down 3 or 4…

    A call for recommendations!

Since you are some of the most bookish people I know dear readers, I come to you with a call for help! I work in an after school program with kindergartners. Our library of books for them is sadly lacking, since this is the first year we’ve had a kindergarten program. It’s so sad! Oh to be surrounded by wonderful books. Anyhow I’m looking for book recommendations for two things: 1) Books that have repetition, so I can read them with the kids and then they can read them themselves later on during Independent Reading Time. 2) Fabulous picture books…

    On writing reviews.

(Sometimes that evil blinking cursor just mocks me.) Lately I’ve been pondering the best way to write reviews. Any of you who also write a book blog probably have gone through this same thing. You give your opinion, you read it over, and then you second guess yourself. Is your review too short? Too long? Are there spoilers? Will people understand what you are talking about? Or maybe it’s just me and I’m over thinking it. Anyway I’ve finally decided that, for me, the best way to write reviews is just to write! I just sit down and type out…

However I do know that everyone likes getting goodies! So let’s celebrate…

    The Reader’s Bill of Rights

I’ve seen this poster around more than a few times lately, and I still remember the first time I ever saw it. In 4th grade, this was posted in our library at school. We had the coolest librarian, and she was the first one who really sparked my love of eclectic reading. Now that it’s a new year, I’m taking a look back into my past as a reader. These simple little sentences are  still as important to me now as they were back then. So I thought I’d share them with you, and give you a little of my…

    In 2012 I will work on…

It’s that time again! Time to set some new goals, and get to work accomplishing them.  First let’s take a look at my goals for last year and how I did. 1. Read on my own time.  I promised myself I wouldn’t stress out if I didn’t have as much time to read, and I didn’t! Accomplished. 2. Post, or not.  Again, one that was my fault. I was making myself feel awful for not posting even if it was once in a great while. I stopped doing that this year. Accomplished. 3. Comment MORE.  This one was a hit…
