2024 Wrap Up: 5 Books I Missed Out On
It’s that time of year again! Look at me acting like I actually have done this in the last few years haha. Okay I admit I’ve been slacking on my wrap-up posts but this year I was feeling motivated and decided to spin up a few for you. So this week will be dedicated to wrapping up the year, and looking forward to what comes next! Starting with: 5 books I missed out on in 2024 and really want to read. They’re transferring over into 2025!
The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins – released January 9, 2024
I saw this book in an upcoming books newsletter in late 2023 as was immediately sold. An inheritance that is surrounded by secrets and lies. A mystery that might just end in the potential demise of our main character? Oh friend, you have me hook, line and sinker. I’m so sad I didn’t get to this during my reading year. But it’s moving forward with me into 2025!
Annie Bot by Sierra Greer – released March 19, 2024
This book refuses to stop reminding me that I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. It shows up in “best of” list after “best of” list, and I’m just over here sighing dramatically. My library had such a long waitlist for this one, and I’ve been on a low buy, so I was trying to be patient. All bets are off in 2025 though… so let’s get to it!
The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo – released April 9, 2024
I enjoy Leigh Bardugo’s books immensely, and when I found out that there was a story coming that was set during the Spanish Inquisition, I knew I had to read it. I’ve been looking forward to this one, so much so I’m trying to convince my book group to read it with me. So there was no question at all that this was making its way into the 2025 reading list.
Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland – released May 7, 2024
I am a sucker for a good Fantasy novel, and this one has been staring at me from shelves since May. I almost gave in a bought a copy but (sadly) that’s the best way for me to set it aside and not read it haha. So instead I’m waiting for my turn on the library waitlist. Which is hopefully coming up in the 2nd week of January! So that’s excellent news.
The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman – released July 16, 2024
Did I mention that I love Fantasy? Haha. Also this is an Authurian offshoot story, and that stole my heart instantly. A ragtag group of would-be heroes attempting to rebuild a kingdom? Yup, that’s my jam right there. Fairies, monsters and old gods that our group must battle at every turn, as well? You’ve just described my perfect story. I absolutely cannot wait to get to this one.
So there you have it! That’s my 2025 starting TBR, or at least part of it. Of course I already have 2025 releases sitting in line, and I’m going to continue to read my backlog as much as possible. 2024 treated me well in terms of mood reading. I found some gems, and I never felt stressed at all. The power of a DNF is real, my friends. So I’m looking forward to much more of that in 2025. Reading should be fun, after all!
What 2024 releases did you miss out on that you’d like to make time for in your 2025 reading?
